I stand here

Steadfast and still

Rooted to the table

But oh

What a thrill

Each time you stroll

Into this little room

Your glow brighter

Then my tungsten bloom

I watch you lean

Open that book

Fingers flipping pages

One curious look

My switch aches

To flick itself

You see, and say

"Notice me,

Your faithful marquee!"

Every night you sit

Beneath my light

Unaware of this lamps

Secret plight

You twist my knob and

I feel alive

My purpose rekindled

My circuits revive

Oh, how I wish

I could speak my piece

But alas

I'm mute

What a cruel caprice

I'd ask you, dear,

Why leave me alone

When the day breaks

And the dark has flown

And don't think I

Missed that vase flirt

How you polished it clean

Gave it fresh dirt

Do I ever get

Such tender care?

I gather dust while

You braid your hair

But I forgive

For my love runs deep

Even though I

Never get to sleep

At your bedside

I remain your knight

Guardian of dreams

A sentinel of light

Perhaps one day

You'll hear my plea

Though just a lamp

Could you love me

But for now

I'll shine and

Bide my time

For even a lamp
Can dream in rhyme
