What is it that you see

When you look at me?

Have you noticed this

Dark Shadow?

It's either my 6 o'clock shadow

The dark cloud over my head

The bags under my eyes

My shadow before me in the sun

It ligers and follows

There's no real escape

The dark shadow

Shows up unexpectedly

Some days you see it

Some days you'd never know

It hides in my dark corners

Waiting, debating and plotting

Like a lioness on the hunt

You, my friend, see this face

You see me blend in

You see me laugh

You see me cry

You honestly think

That I'm actually alright

My face though is a masterpiece

If you are close enough

You might see some cracks

What hides behind the

Dark Shadow

I try to fill the voids

Replace the bricks

One by one

The higher the build

The weaker it seems

There... a piece

You try to wiggle free

Please, I beg of you!

Whatever you do,

Don't let it out!

My Dark Shadow haunts me

It truly taunts me

You ask me

"Why are you so distant?"

The Dark Shadow and I fight

Within the words of my reply

"I come from pain,

But I have so much love

I am damaged

But watch how I heal

Everything is dark

But... I can sense the light."

Have you yet begun to see

The Dark Shadow and I

Are in a constant tango

Even better, a boxing match

Who shall win

Who shall lose

Internally The Dark Shadow

Is claiming victory

But I try to

Root for the underdog

Me in my truest form.
